Tony Pulis is seeking more competition for places in his squad, but rather than an established defender to replace the outgoing Elliott Ward, he has offered a trial to a non-league reserve goalkeeper.
Scott Ward is a 24-year-old shotstopper on the books at Crawley Town, who has played only four times this season. After conceding five goals, one more than the number of games he's played, usually has to settle for a place on the Reds' bench and there has been no signs, until now, of changing.
However, this has not detered Pulis from giving the former Luton man one week to impress and earn himself full-time deal with the Pilgrims. It is unlikely that Crawley would want compensation for second-choice Ward.
Argyle fans may be scratching their at this one, perhaps fueling speculation that one of the club's prized 'keepers could be set to leave? Luke McCormick, who has more than proven himself in nets for the Greens and may be seeking regular first-team football, or Romain Larrieu who has impressed Premiership clubs in the past and is in good form at present.
