FLOWERS IN THE TRANSFER WINDOW
Fans of it or not, the Transfer Window is certainly causing more media hype and anxiety going into the Christmas period. It is looking increasing likely, however, that Tony Pulis will have to wait until January to bring new faces to Home Park. With news that Tony Pulis has been in talks with a Premiership striker, speculation is rife in Westcountry with a few names being heard here and there. Mornar at Portsmouth and Matt Jansen at Blackburn have both reportedly seeking loan moves down a division , and out-of-favour Fulham srtiker Heidar Helguson is also said to be a target for a couple undisclosed Championship clubs. I am not one for spreading rumours, but with no word from Argyle officials on their transfer dealings or scouting missions, fans have nothing else to go on. The word on the terraces is that Malcolm Christie is high on the Pilgrim's shopping list, but it is again proving difficult to attract such high-profile players to Devon, who would feel more comfortable moving to somewhere closer to home in the short-term.
TWO WEEKS NOTICE
Argyle have had a fortnight to prepare for this match against QPR. As with most international breaks, players seem to return with injuries to show from their travels. However, with only two players away playing for their national sides, Argyle surely might have been OK. QPR manager Ian Holloway will have been delighted to discover that Plymouth's Hungarian midfielder Akos Buzsaky is rated doubtful for this weekend's clash, following his wonder-goal in the reverse of this fixture one month ago. The playmaker is said to be suffering from an abdominal strain picked up in midweek training; he did not feature at all in Lothar Matthais' side in a friendly against the European Champions, Greece. Tony Pulis was of course frustrated. "It is a great honour to represent your country", the Pilgrims boss said, "but you could have a situation where both Akos and Tony [Capaldi, away with Northern Ireland] returned with long term injuries, which Plymouth Argyle would have to pick up the expenses for".
THE OPPOSITION
The R's will be without key players in the middle of the park with Marc Bircham and Steve Lomas both facing spells on the sidelines. QPR's prolific striker Paul Furlong, now 37, will be on the treatment table going into the game, so George Santos is set to accompany Kevin Gallen in attack for injury-plagued Rangers.
