The home side did pull a goal back to level but Argyle held on and grabbed another vital point towards safety.
It was a match that Argyle were given little chance in but Paul Gallagher's penalty gave the visitors a half time lead.
Franck Queudrue levelled in the second half with it was Argyle who were most welcoming of the point.
Plymouth now have 50 points, usually enough for safety but with Forest only 4 points behind with three games to go then more points are needed.
Hopefully three of them will come on Saturday at home to Doncaster.
