The move was hardly surprising with Plymouth one off the bottom of the table in the Coca-Cola Championship.
They have won only four league matches this season and have lost their past three Championship games, all 1-0, and it could have been even worse — they were 4-1 down at home to Barnsley last month when the match was abandoned after 58 minutes because of a waterlogged pitch.
"The board has decided to make this move following the continuing poor set of results," Sir Roy Gardner, the Plymouth chairman, said.
