Plymouth Argyle executive director Keith Todd has said focus on the city's World Cup bid did not have a negative effect on the troubled club.The club, who currently face a winding-up petition, were a potential 2018 World Cup venue if England had been chosen to host the tournament.
Todd said: "There's been absolutely the necessary focus [on the club] needed.
"It [the bid] was a lot of extra work for a few people, but it didn't affect what was going on on the pitch.
He told BBC Spotlight: "There were certain individuals who were involved and working long hours to ensure that the best bid could be submitted."
Russia was chosen by Fifa's executive committee on Thursday as the host nation for 2018, scuppering Plymouth's plans to hold matches at their Home Park stadium.

Plymouth Argyle have been summoned to appear at the Royal Courts of Justice on 8 December, having been presented with a winding-up petition for unpaid taxes from HM Revenue & Customs.
The club also revealed on Tuesday that both playing and office staff have not received their November salary pay.
Todd said: "The football club has got some challenges at the moment and as we have said on several occasions recently we are working very diligently and are very focused on a way to resolve them .
"When there's more to say we'll certainly be saying it."
