Tubbs double sees Crawley climb

Striker Matt Tubbs hit a goal in each half to secure a comfortable third successive league win for high-riding Crawley, downing bottom of the table Plymouth 2-0.

Tubbs gave Crawley a perfect start in the fifth minute by grabbing his sixth goal of the season from close in following a low cross by Kyle McFadzean.

Plymouth came close to equalising two minutes later when defender Curtis Nelson headed a Will Atkinson cross narrowly wide.

Tubbs sealed victory on the hour with a left-foot finish into the centre of the goal after strike partner Tyrone Barnett set him up with a headed assist.

Crawley dominated for long periods and Tubbs was off target with a near-post header on 18 minutes after Andy Drury delivered a good cross from the left, McFadzean later wastefully shooting over from a good position.

Plymouth keeper Jake Cole superbly denied Barnett shortly after the break by tipping his goal-bound header over the crossbar following a cross by David Hunt.

An unproductive match for Plymouth, who have now lost five of their six away games, ended when Warren Feeney wasted his chance at a consolation goal in stoppage time by blazing wide when well placed to score.
