U`s hit Argyle for five
James Constable and Robbie Hall both bagged braces as Oxford hammered bottom of the table Plymouth 5-1.
On-loan West Ham forward Hall opened the scoring on 15 minutes after Plymouth goalkeeper Jake Cole had initially saved Alfie Potter's header with an outstretched foot.
Argyle came back into the match with Michael Duberry having to clear off the line from Jared Sims. And at the start of the second half it seemed as though they had been thrown a lifeline as Duberry fouled Sims in the box and captain Simon Walton converted the penalty to bring Plymouth level.
But promotion-chasing Oxford subsequently went up a gear. Hall got his second goal with a brilliant volley at full stretch from Damian Batt's right-wing cross - his sixth goal in six weeks.
Constable then added two more, including a fifth in stoppage time.
But the best goal of the game came from U`s midfielder Peter Leven, who chipped `keeper Cole from the edge of the penalty area.
It was a confidence-restoring win for Oxford after they saw their eight-match unbeaten run ended at Gillingham on Saturday, but for Plymouth, who are adrift at the foot of League Two, the agony goes on.
