Oldham bounced back from their drubbing by Southampton to sink Plymouth 2-0.
Paul Dickov's side took the game to their hosts following a poor first half and were rewarded inside two minutes of the second half when Dale Stephens coolly fired them ahead from 10 yards out.
Stephens was teed up by Chris Taylor, who embarked on a mazy run along the byline before cutting the ball back to the unmarked striker.
Argyle went further behind in the 73rd minute following a goalmouth scramble which saw the Latics appeal for a goal when the ball was cleared off the line.
Those appeals faded away within seconds as Oumare Tounkara crashed a thumping drive into the roof of the net past a line of defenders.
